The Walker was founded in 1879 by Thomas Barlow Walker. It moved to its current location in 1927. The Walkers focus on modern art began in the 1940s and its collection and focus has grown over the past forty-eight years.
The Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is the perfect retreat for visitors and residents of Minneapolis alike. The garden spans eleven acres and houses over forty permanent works, as well as temporary exhibitions. The garden also houses a conservatory, which is a solacing refuge on a cold winter day. Perhaps the most famous symbol of Minnesota resides in the center of the garden, Claes Oldenberg’s “Spoonbridge and Cherry”. Groups of 10-50 visitors are invited to schedule a volunteer-led or self-guided tour of the museum. All groups should be scheduled at least three weeks in advance. Guided tours are $2 per visitor.

Tours generally last one hour and can be tailored to meet your group's needs. Choose a general overview of the museum, or a focused look at an exhibition of interest. Tours may include interactive gallery activities, or be customized to suit your audience. Email wamtour@umn.edu or call 612-625-9656 for tour scheduling.
