Roma di Luna Twin Cities

Roma di Luna

Roma di Luna is one of the Twin Cities’ most talented acts. This married couple seems born to make music together.

Roma di Luna is an acoustic duo composed of husband and wife, Alexei and Channy Moon Casselle. They play a sparse and dark old timey folk. Instrumentation is simple, with Alexei’s guitar and Channy’s violin as the bedrock, and emotive, intense vocals stabbing through.
Roma di Luna appeared on the scene through weekly busking at the downtown Minneapolis farmer’s market starting in 2005. Since then, they have released two CDs, “Face of my Friends EP (2006) and Find You Way Home (2007). They plan on releasing their third album in the fall of 2008.
At the majority of their live appearances, the couple appears with a full backing band – drums, electric guitar, bass, banjo, and additional vocals. The full band really serves only to compliment the sparse style of Roma di Luna and the bare-bones style of Alexei and Channy still carries through.
Jessica Chapman wrote earlier this year in Minnesota Monthly of Roma di Luna, “The duo’s transporting folk, ripe with all the religious overtones and drama attendant to the genre’s rural forbears, grabs hold of the imagination, carrying you far from home. The album relies on Channy’s haunting vocals, but Alexei steals the show with his rich half-growl verging on a yodel”
Roma di Luna’s style is rustic and intimate. The lyrics are heartbreaking and poignant. Alexei says of their music, “A lot of its power comes from the quietness. That's very different from what I'm used to”. Channy is an extremely talented vocalist, and the power and tone of her voice help to transport the listener to another time and place.

Roma di Luna puts on a great live show. Check them out at one of their many upcoming concerts in the Twin Cities.
