Café Lurcat is located in the Fawkes building overlooking Loring Park. The Fawkes building was the long time home of the popular Loring Café. Café Lurcart has totally overhauled the interior and created an elegant, modern atmosphere. They also have added an extensive bar (Bar Lurcat). The restaurant’s floor to ceiling windows afford great views of Loring Park throughout. In the summer months, outdoor seating overlooking the park is also available.
Café Lurcat’s menu is creative and interesting without being intimidating. The style is founded on artisanal ingredients, simple continental cooking, and unadorned main dishes. Try out the foie gras with prosciutto, the rack of lamb with bordelaise sauce, or the very popular sea bass marinated in miso. Café Lurcat also has an extensive wine list with over thirty wines available by the glass and many more available by the bottle. The dessert menu features suggested pairings for the exquisite desserts and wines, as well as the many dessert drinks available.
Café Lurcat tends to be quite busy, so it is best to reserve a table up to two weeks in advance if you would like to dine during peak hours. Valet service is also available. The most often complaint heard about the Lurcat is that the prices are too high and they are, admittedly, quite steep. The quality of the food and flawless service and presentation, however, certainly justify them. Unless you have very deep pockets, Café Lurcat is best left for those ‘special occasions’ meals, when you really want to indulge yourself, cost be damned.
