During a family’s medical crisis, Spare Key makes a families mortgage payment for one month. This allows the parents to focus on their child’s well being and stay by their side during a difficult time filled with unknowns.

Spare Key is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose mission is to provide financial assistance for Minnesota homeowners with a critically ill or seriously injured child.

Spare Key does this by making a mortgage payment directly to a family's lender on their behalf after all paid leave has been exhausted or when the child’s medical care has resulted in a demonstrated significant reduction of income or increase in expenses.

The diagnosis or injury does not have to be terminal, but the 21-day hospitalization implies that their condition is serious and/or critical. The families are generally referred to Spare Key by a social worker from whom they receive a Spare Key application.

In 2007 we are celebrating Spare Key’s tenth anniversary and are honored to recognize the founders, volunteers, corporate and philanthropic partners and the families we have served and received back tremendous blessings in return.
